Description

Color: Black; Green; Red; Yellow A box for Christmas lights, ca. 1920s. The lid (a), however, is from a different set than the bottom and inside material. It is for a Reliance brand of bulb, while the bottom is for Polly's brand. Moreover, the product number on the lid is #127 and the set is for indoor/outdoor use, while that on the bottom is #51 and is an outdoor set. The lid has a yellow center with a string of lights as a border and the product name in red and black letters within. Below is a red banner with "FOR EVERY OCCASION" in it. On the sides are images of children playing with toys by a Christmas tree, a group of dancers, a house entrnace, and a corner of a house--all of these scenes feature electric lights and the front panel has a border of light strings. Three of the four side panels have mottos about the product, but the fourth side has the model number stamped on it. The bottom is largely unornamented, except for a protective flap covering the set and some information on the cardboard piece that holds the lights in place. On the flap is an image of Santa Claus riding atop an airplane, while arched windows with electric lights flank it. The product name and other information is also on the lid. On one of the inner sides of the box bottom is the model number and product description, while the cardboard holder under the light string has directions for use and the name of the manufacturer. A string of seven blue lights, item 2.1, is in place in the holder. Adhesive tape holds the corners of the lid and there are small tears, creases and general wear to both lid and bottom, so they are in fair condition.
