Description

Color: Pink A Renticella Italian handmade placemat, ca. 1920s. The piece, which has a pinkish cast to it, has an outer edge of open work, featuring, at the top and bottom edges, a series of spoked circles and, at the left and right sides, two groupings of paired and joined human figures and, between the figures, radial designs with three rings and spokes. The main portion of the piece is a plain panel with embroidered and open work around the edges with the former resembling birds with raised wings and the latter constituting square patterns with diamond shapes within and rectangular patterns with a diamond shape in the center and bell-like designs on either side. There are also groupings of five joined diamonds. Having been unused, the artifact is in good condition with no signs of wear or damage.
