"Report No. 817, House of Representatives, California Claims," Thirtieth Congress, First Session, 8 August 1848. The item was filed by The Committee on Military Affairs and accompanies Senate Bill number 158 concerning the ascertaining and paying of claims against the United States during the Mexican War from expenses incurred by John C. Fremont as acting governor. There are several pages explaining the issues concerning the claims with much reprinted correspondence between California and officials in Washington relative to the need for money to pay for expenses, hence the claims by California residents who assisted military officials there. Los Angeles claimants include Eulogio de Celis and Antonio Jose Cot, with Celis' transaction with Fremont questioned as to whether the animals were delivered. With significant creasing, some torn pages, soiling, foxing, and some stains, the condition is fair.Lexicon
