Description

Report on the claim of Samuel A. Belden and Company of Texas against the government of Mexico, Rep. Com. No. 303, 32nd Congress, 1st Session, Senate, 20 July 1852. The two-page document concerns a compensation claim for tobacco and other property seized by Mexico, while the area of northern Mexico where the merchants were traveling was allegedly under American control. The committee, however, while agreeing that Belden and Company had a legitimate claim, noted that it was against Mexico, not the United States. With tears, stains and some soiling, the condition is fair.
