RESIDENCE AND GROUNDS OF C. W. SMITH, SOUTH PASADENA, CAL., CA. 1908
A colored photographic postcard of the C. W. Smith residence, South Pasadena, California, ca. 1908. The wooden home with a steeply pitched roof with four gables also has dormers and three chimneys and wrap-around porch lies surrounded with lush gardens, including lawns, many large trees, elaborate planters, and curving walks. To the left of the main house is a dual-gabled structure that is, however, largely obscured by landscaping. The message, written by Mary Lu Hall and postmarked 21 August 1908, is addressed to Mrs. Edwin Melelur of Ellinwood, Kansas. M. Rieder of Los Angeles was the publisher and the card manufactured in Germany. Purchased from HM volunteer Bill Stone, the condition of the card is fair with creases and dents on the corners and edges, stains on the upper right front and lower left back, as well as several small stains throughout, and minor discoloration. The message, in pencil, reads, "Please let us/know wether/you received/Photo of our/family/Mary Lu Hall/426 Towne Ave/Los Angeles."Lexicon
