Description

RESTORATION OF NEWEL POST, LA CASA NUEVA COURTYARD STAIRS Color: Brown A color polaroid photograph of the restoration of the newel post from the stairs of the courtyard of La Casa Nueva, 30 January 1979. The view is from the bottom of the stairs and focused on the top of the post where the ball and circular base are bare wood, while the rest of the post, as well as the visible portion of the stair rail are brown. Based on image .843, it appears only the ball was replaced, while the rest of the post and stair rail are in their as-found condition. To the left can be seen some of the tiles on the stair risers, while at right, though shadowed because of the dim lighting conditions is part of one of the supporting arches for the balcony above. An inscription in blue ink at the bottom of the object reads "Newel Post Outside Stair / South Patio Area - 1/30/79." With little sign of wear or damage, the artifact is in good condition.
