Description
RESTORATION OF TRAP DOOR, SOUTH PORCH OF THE WORKMAN HOUSE
Color: Brown; White
A color polaroid photograph of the restoration of the trap door on the south porch of the Workman House, 2 July 1979. A craftsman stands within the doorway on the lower steps leading down to the basement. He appears to be holding a tape measure in his hand, with the tape leading from the top of the doorway frame to a point on the brick supporting wall below. The hinges have not yet been installed, so it is assumed this is what is being measured for in the image. The door is at the top in an open position. Behind the artisan is the southwest basement room, though details are hard to make out. At top right is the door to the southwest room on the first floor of the house. At left is a portion of the plastered wall and small sections of the porch rail and balusters. An ink inscription on the reverse reads "Workman Residence / south porch at / trap door restoration / prior to hardware / installation / photo by archt. 7/2/79." Below this is the stamp of restoration architect Raymond Girvigian with his name, address, and telephone number covered by a piece of tape. Aside from small stains on the lower left front, the artifact has little wear or damage and is good condition.
