Description

A leather restraint, possibly used during the El Encanto occupancy of the Homestead site, ca. 1940-70s. The restraint was found among other items in a plastic, clear bag, and in a box that was labeled as "Non collection pieces." A note mentions the artifact was found onsite, in a crawl space in the La Casa Nueva East side of the basement. It was most likely used during the time El Encanto, a convalescent home for patients suffering from physical and in some cases, mental health issues was occupying the Homestead historic houses. The restraint is made of curled, heavily dried, and peeling leather with a rusted metal buckle. It is in fair condition.
