"Romantic California" by Ernest Peixotto (New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1910), 219 pp. A hardcover book with a dark green cover, featuring an image of a mission in pastel colors within a gold border with citrus fruits, branches, and leaves. Underneath the mission image is the book's title and author's name in green lettering. The title, author's name, and publisher are in gold lettering on the spine. One of many works linking California to the Mediterranean, in terms of climate and geography, the book has chapters on: the comparison with the state to Italy; impressions on Cypress Point in northern California; descriptions of the missions; El Camino Real; the towns of Sonoma and Monterey; the Gold Country; areas around San Francisco; the Farallones islands; the redwood groves of the Russian River; and the Sierra Nevada mountains. Many line drawings by the author are included in the book, which has an inscription in blue ink reading: "Mrs. Harry Wogan [sp?] / To Terry / From / Corkoo" and a stamp from: "MRS. JENNY HACKLEY / 1139 W. 8TH St. Riverside, Calif." on the inside front cover. With loose binding on the inside front cover; acid burn on pages 196 and 197 from a piece of paper used as a bookmark and dented cover corners and abrasions on the spine ends, the book is in good condition overall.Lexicon
