Description

Color: Black; White A photograph of the San Gabriel Valley taken from Mt. Lowe, ca. 1900. The black and white image shows the Pasadena/ Altadena area and points out and westward from the peak at Mt. Lowe. Denser inhabited areas are ringed by farms and open lands and there are low hill ranges leading toward Los Angeles and the southern portions of the county. In the foreground is the Mt. Lowe observatory at the right, and the rail access leading to it from the left, with electric power poles, the track line, structure, and so forth at the lower center and left. At the bottom left corner is a caption "SAN GABRIEL VALLEY MT. LOWE." On the reverse in pencil are the inscriptions "5 1/4 inches" with arrows on both sides to indicate margins and "San Gabriel Valley," it being evident that this was an image used for some form of reproduction, probably for publication. There is a crease at the top left corner, yellowing, and a stain at the center of the right edge, but the condition is good overall. Number-Units: 1
