Description

Color: Black; White A photograph of a section of downtown San Jose, California, ca. 1910s. The image is taken from a building and oversees an intersection, a large metal tower erected so that its legs rest at each corner of the intersection, and many buildings, most two-story, with one five-story structure at the intersection's corner. There is a streetcar approaching the direction of the photographer and several horse-drawn conveyances on the street, which is wet with rain, or parked alongside it. Some pedestrians are on the sidewalks. In the distance are some residential areas among thick stands of trees. On the back center is a pencil inscription, reading "Electric Tower, / San Jose, Santa Clara Valley." The words "San Jose" are crossed out at the beginning of the inscription. Another note below this reads, "Ch of Com / Return," meaning the Los Angeles chamber. With small creases at the bottom, corner abrasions, yellowing, pin holes at all corners, and some stains on the bottom left corner of the back, the overall condition is good. Number-Units: 1
