Rug: Large Sarouk Persian rug produced in the Sarouk district of central Iran for the German market. The rug is made of 100% wool pile on a cotton foundation and is hand-knotted overall. This type of rug is often referred to as a Royal Sarouk rug because the floral motifs where copied from tile patterns found in Persian palaces dating from the late 15th and 16th centuries. There are elements of multi-colored floral, cloud-band, and tree-of-life motifs scattered over the rug on a red background. Borders have blue backgrounds. Major border has tree-of-life and cloud-band designs. Minor border has three bands of traditional Persian patterns. Medallion in center of rug and design elements represents the garden as a sign of peace. 1" fringe (it was longer but has been worn off). Rug was used in a room with high humidity for many years. Some furniture dents and signs of wear visible. Has been professionally cleaned and is in good condition overall.Lexicon
