Description
Satin shoes worn by Maria Boyle Workman worn during her wedding, made in France, ca. 1860s. Maria Boyle Workman wore the shoes during her wedding to William H. Workman on October 17, 1867. The left shoe(a) and right shoe(b) are both made of silk satin with part of the interior lining made of leather lining and linen. There are two labels on the heel of the right shoe. One of the labels clearly states the word "Droite" which is French for the word right, meaning the right shoe. The other label is too worn to discern further information. Both shoes have a ribbon on the toe section made of the same silk satin material and leather soles with a small square heel. Both have minor tearing, abrasions and stains from use. The shoes are in fair condition. A pair of green zippered pouches were used to store the shoes but are not part of the collection.
