Description

"SEARS, ROEBUCK AND CO. LOS ANGELES CATALOG, SPRING/SUMMER 1929" Color: Black; Blue; Green; Red; White; Yellow A catalog issued by Sears, Roebuck and Co. from its Los Angeles branch, 1929. The spring and summer edition, the 745-page artifact has images of packages, a crate, and a wrapped automobile tire on the front over a speckled blue background. Superimposed over this, at the center, is a red-bordered box, within which are statements about the company's offer to pay postage for any order made from the catalog. At the bottom is the company name and the date of the catalog, as well as the name of Los Angeles--the former two parts in yellow lettering and the latter in black. More about the postage paid offer is in the inside front cover and information about Sears' status as the world's largest store, along with a map of the U. S. showing the store's branches is on the first page. Following pages include information about using the catalog, the company's pledge of quality and guarantees of service and so forth. Most of the product descriptions have black and white drawings to illustrate them, though there are some pages in color. Between pages 254-55 is a postcard to order a catalog of made-to-order clothing. At the back is a time payment (or credit) order form and two prepaid order forms. The front cover is nearly separated from the rest of the catalog and has many creases, some small tears and general wear. Three pencil inscriptions within the box on the front cover read "1929." Many of the pages are creased, dogeared and discolored and the artifact is in poor condition and should be handled very carefully.
