Description

SECTION OF 1920S PIPE AND BRICK FENCING IN EL CAMPO SANTO Color: Green; Red A color photograph of a section of 1920s pipe and brick fencing in El Campo Santo, ca. 1977. The image shows the vine-covered fence with a base of brick nine levels high. At center is a thicker support with a baroder base of brick correspondingly. A wooden stake, just to the left, of this support section seems to be used to indicate scale. Vaguely seen in the background are trees and grass in the cemetery, but it cannot be ascertained which side of the grounds this view is from. In the foreground is a patch of dirt. The reverse upper section has an ink inscription reading "Cemetery befor [sic] demo." The pipe fence was added to the grounds in the 1920s by the Temple family. The brick may either be remant of the original wall from circa 1870 or added in the 1920s--see, however, item .1009 where the pipe fence has no brick with it. With little indication of wear or damage, save a thin strip of discoloration on the reverse edges, the object is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
