SECTION OF 1920S PIPE FENCING IN EL CAMPO SANTO
Color: Black; Green
A color photograph of a section of 1920s pipe fencing in El Campo Santo, ca. 1977. The image shows a corner, probably the northeast. The corner post and three others on the northern side receding into the background at left are thicker pieces of metal than the horizontal pieces linking the posts. Around the fence are some plants and weeds, but the inside appears as unkempt as the outside. In the background are large trees in their wooden containers---brought in, no doubt, for the restoration of the museum site. On the reverse upper part is an ink inscription reading "Cemetery befor [sic] demo." Unlike items .1007 and .1008, there is no base of brick on which the fence is sitting. Although the pipe fence can be dated to the restoration of El Campo Santo by the Temple family in the 1920s, it is not known if the brick are remnants of the Workman family construction of the original enclosure wall about 1860 or 1920s additions to the pipe fence. The artifact is in good condition, with some adhesive lines from a photo album on the top of the reverse the only notable signs of wear or damage.
