Description

Color: Black; Green; Gold; Orange; Yellow "Seroco Quality Paints," a catalog issued by Sears, Roebuck and Company, ca. 1920s. The softcover 40-page artifact has an orange-bordered cover, within which, on the front, is an image of a Cape-Cod style house with a green steeply-pitched roof. At the top of this image is the catalog title and the company's name and location are at the bottom. A can of Seroco (a brand name) paint is at the bottom right. On the back is a similar layout with the image showing a view from inside a house, looking out towards another structure. On the inside front cover are two room scenes in color with a listing of products used to complete the painting. An index, surrounded by an image of a man holding a can of paint in his hand and a door and house visible next to and behind him, is on the first page. Information on the product and when to paint, according to the weather, how to measure the home to determine the quantity of paint needed, how to apply the paint, and the use of linseed oil, follows. Other related products are described, including repair paint; elastic compounds; various house paints; enamels; varnishes; flat finish paints; floor paints; and instructions for interior painting. Testimonials to Seroco paints are on pages 8-10, followed by information on how the paint is made. Color samples follow page 12, which gives prices, and there are samples for other products, as well. Accessories, such as ladders, brushes, kerosene and the various types of paints, enamels, stains, and other products, such as motor oil and automobile products are listed. With cover wear and fading and some acid burns from paint samples resting on other pages, as well as creases, the catalog is in fair condition.
