A real photo postcard, "Shell Well On Fire, Signal Hill," by Winstead, 1921. The nighttime image shows a tall spout of flame emerging from the well with some dark smoke at one side. At the bottom, the full caption reads "SHELL WELL ON FIRE / SIGNAL HILL TAKEN AT / 1:30 AM [date scratched out] 1921 / PHOTO BY WINSTEAD." On the reverse is a message from 16 January 1922 referring to the well fire. With some significant creases, soiling, dents and edge rubbing, the condition is fair.
