Description

Book: "Sixty Years in Southern California, 1853-1913" by Harris Newmark, edited by Maurice and Marco Newmark with assistance from James Perry Worden (New York: The Knickerbocker Press, 1926), 732 pp. A maroon-colored hardcover book with dustjacket and plastic dustcover. There are 172 illustrations, most portraits of Los Angeles luminaries. The dustjacket contains quotes of praise from regional literary figures such as Charles F. Lummis, John Steven McGroarty and area newspapers. The first edition introduction by Newmark, a second edition introduction by his sons, who were credited as editors, and a foreword by Lummis are included. The work, originally published in 1916, is the reminiscences of the prominent Los Angeles merchant. Worden, credited by J. Gregg Layne, as the person who "wrote the book", was hired by Walter P. Temple to write a history of the Workman and Temple families, which went unfinished. In good condition with discoloration and dust jacket losses. None
