Description

PHOTOGRAPH, CABINET CARD, SOUTH ON GRAND AVENUE FROM NORTH OF FIFTH STREET, LOS ANGELES, ca. 1895. Taken from the east side of Grand, the view shows the street heading southward with the most prominent feature being the facade of the State Normal School at the far right, now the site of the Central Public Library. The area west of Grand appears to be mainly residential, with some church spires visible in the distance. On the reverse, in ink, is the inscription "Looking down Grand Avenue, / Los Angeles, Cal. / The Normal School on / the right of the picture." With soiling on the image, particularly at the upper left and edge and corner wear to the card, the condition is generally good.
