Description

SOUTHEAST GATE TO MISSION WALKWAY AND CENTER DRIVE Color: Black; White A negative of the Mission Walkway's southeast gate and the center drive, ca. 1926. The archway and wood gate are at the left. Also at the left and to the right is the walkway's east wall. The wall has many arches and is lined at the top with tile. Behind the walkway is part of La Casa Nueva's south and east sides. Part of the adobe home's courtyard is visible and was under construction at the time the image was taken. In the area where the fountain was later built is a pile of dirt. Also unfinished are the east and west patios as the beams which were across the top had yet to be added. Some of the home's architectural elements such as the tile roof, east chimney, and white walls are clearly visible. Across the foreground, at the front of the walkway's wall, is a row of trees, including pines and a palm. This is next to the unpaved center driveway that curves at the far right. Also at the right is a grassy area around which is a fence. With a small loss, slightly affecting the image, at the left edge, and some discoloration, possible from adhesive and some dark material at the right edge, none of which affects the image, the artifact's condition is good.
