Description

Color: Black; White A black and white photograph (there are two copies) of the southeastern corner of La Casa Nueva and looking out toward the Mission Walkway, ca. 1924, by Albert J. Kopec. Taken from the western side of the courtyard, at left is the corner of the house with plastering of the last portico columns being completed (an A-frame of boards rests against the column.) The arch at the end of the portico also needs to be plastered and wood framing is visible there. It does not appear that the flagstone walk has been laid. While the tile roof over the portico is laid there are at least three pieces of board projecting from the south end. Above this, is a portion of the second-floor patio with square columns of brick unplastered. The tile shelf between the columns is laid, while the wall beneath the shelf is plastered and scored for the final layer of whitewash, as is the main wall of the house. At the lower right is part of the Mission Walkway with the wall and columns plastered and the top row of tiles laid. Boards across the columns and perpendicular ones projecting into the main wall are also laid. The walkway does not appear to be laid and there are stacks of adobe bricks, wood boards, piles of sand, and a barrel on the ground. Behind the walkway can be seen part of one of the old wineries and a car is visible through the Mission Walkway arch. On the reverse is a stamp reading "Kopec / L.A." With light smearing on the back upper left corner, the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
