Description

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SAVINGS BANK VAULT, CA. 1900 Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of the Southern California Savings Bank vault, ca. 1900. The photograph features three different views of the vault. On the bottom left is a view from the west corner which shows the two vault doors closed in the center. Each has two iron bars across the middle with a circular door handle between them. Large iron latches are seen on the sides with bolts on the top and bottom. Engraved wood paneling surrounds the doors and four column designs, with two on the left, one between the doors, and another on the right. On the far right is an iron fence with pointed ends. Another view, with the vault doors opened, is on the center right. Wheels, cogs, and latches which compose the locking apparatus is on the inner part of the doors. Two other vault doors are revealed on the inside. Made of iron, these doors have ornate flower and leaf designs on the bottom half, while on top these have a gate. The wood paneling is around the vault, as well as the iron fence on the far right. In the top center is the third view in a oval shape. One of the opened vault doors is seen with a closer view of the locking mechanism. To the left is the iron door with ornate flower and leaf designs on the bottom, and gate on the top. A key slot is on the middle left and some materials are inside the vault itself. With no signs of wear, the image is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
