"Souvenir, Balloon Route Trolley Trip, Los Angeles," C. E. McCarthy, January 1916. The photo shows several dozen persons seated or standing, including the trolley conductor crouching in front at the right, at the steps of the library at the National Soldiers Home in Sawtelle. At the bottom left, inscribed on the negative, is "1 Car / Jan 21, 16." The photo is pasted down in a brown paper folder with the title on the front, along with an identification as to specific location, and the name of the tour operator, the Pacific Electric Railway. McCarthy's name and information is on the reverse along with a note that "sepia photos" or the missions, Santa Catalina Island, Mount Lowe and Pasadena were available. With much edge tearing, dogeared corners, small losses, and creases on the folder and small corner losses, major creases at the upper right and some staining on the photo, the overall condition is fair.
