SOUVENIR BOOKLET FROM THE CALIFORNIA ALLIGATOR FARM
Color: Blue; Green; Red; Yellow
A souvenir viewbook of colored photographs from the California Alligator Farm, Los Angeles, ca. 1910s. One side of the folded artifact has an image of an alligator at the bottom left with its mouth open and the words "Drop In," the farm's motto, adjacent. Water, palm trees and oranges are also decorative elements around the edges. At the upper left is "SOUVENIR / from the / CALIFORNIA ALLIGATOR / FARM / LOS ANGELES, CAL." Three lines for addressing the object are at the lower center and a box for placement of a postage stamp is at the upper right. The copyright symbol at the initials "C. T. & CO." are at the bottom right. On the reverse is an image of two children on the back of an alligator on a dirt path with lush landscaping in the background. Part of the image is duplicated by a gatefold, while the publisher's name and headquarters is at the bottom. The inside of the gatefold has the word "FROM" and two lines for the sender's name. The rest of the inside of the pacakging is a description of the farm. Attached in an accordion format are 18 images on two sides of cards with captions at the bottom. These are views of alligators, the farm and, guests, mostly children, interacting with the animals. The images are in generally good condition, though some of the folds show indications of wear and could tear with improper handling. The top of the cover appears to be have been pest infested and there is much surface soiling, so the artifact is in fair condition.Lexicon
