"Spalding's Official Foot Ball Guide for 1928," edited by E. K. Hall (New York: American Sports Publishing Company, 1928), 308 pp. Part of the Spalding Company's Athletic Library, the book has a yellow softcover with the Spalding name in white at the top of the front. At the center is a green bar with the name of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the words "FOOT / BALL / RULES." The year is in blue below the latter. Also at the center is a color illustration of a few players, some in red and others in blue jerseys, playing a game in front of a spectator-filled stadium. The editor's name as well as "Official Intercollegiate / Foot Ball / Guide" are near the bottom left in white letters within a blue box. The publisher's name is across the bottom and the title is on the spine in green. At the beginning of the inside are a listing of other books in the Spalding Library, a title page, table of contents, index of college teams, and the goals and objectives of the Rules Committee. The book includes run-downs of teams by regions; team records; a listing of 1927's leading players; top plays; records; schedules for 1928; an equipment catalog; and the official rules of the game. Also included are many black and white team photographs. With some light abrasions; small creases; browning of the paper; and small tears on the cover, the artifact is in good overall condition.Lexicon
