Description

Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of a speedboat on the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy, ca. 1930. The boat is at the center heading towards the right. At the foreground, and partially blocking the boat, are two pylons. Over the canal at the center of the background is a small brick bridge. Flanking this are two large brick buildings with many windows, columns, and arches. The building on the left appears to be a church. On the back is writing in Agnes Temple's hand which reads, "This is a private / speed boat owned / by wealthy people / in Venice instead of / the old fashioned / gandolas. / Rec'd at La Puente / Feb. 10/30." The photograph was taken during Temple's honeymoon and was housed in her album, which is item 96.7.94.1 along with many other photographs, which span 96.7.1.1-.93.1. Contact sheets 2000.159.1.1-.8 show the original positioning of the images within the album. With water damage and smearing of the ink at the back, the image is in poor condition. Number-Units: 1
