Color: Black; White
A reproduction black and white photograph of members of the Spur Club, an equestrian riding club at Scripps College, ca. 1928. The 22 members of the club are posed in two groups with the back row standing on some type of platform. Identification of the members may be found in the list of photographs prepared by William Smith, pg. 72. The costumes vary, with some of them wearing jodhpur-like riding trousers and others more narrow-flared pants. Many have vests, one wears a jacket. All wear ties, but of varying lengths, widths and patterns. A few of the students wear hats, ranging from cloches to straw hats to derby-like headgear. Some carry riding crops. The group stands in a field with a road behind them and groups of trees in the background, but the location is not known, though assumed to be on or near the college campus. This photo was part of the research for the developement in 1987 of a museum living history character. On the reverse upper right corner is the pencil inscription "33846 / 18." Though the photo was cropped, there appears to be little or no wear or damage and the artifact is in good condition.
