Description
"St. Francis Dam Horror. Home Washed For Miles in Path of Flood. Fillmore, California," 1928. The image shows people standaing near a one-story wood frame house at the right and much plant debris piled around it. In the background are more persons and parked automobiles. The caption is at the bottom. The St. Francis Dam collapse of 12 March 1928 killed hundreds of persons and was the second worst disaster in terms of loss of life in California to date (after the San Francisco earthquake and fire of 1906). With some soiling and edge rubbing, the overall condition is good.
