Description

STAIRWELL WORK FOR NEW DECK, WATER TOWER RESTORATION Color: Brown A reproduced color photograph of the recreation of the upper deck of the Water Tower, 28 April 1977. At the top left a carpenter, on his knees and back turned to the camera, is laying a floor board over recently rebuilt joists and ribs for the upper deck floor. At center left is the hole for the stairwell leading down into the second floor. At the top and right are catwalks and supports for the scaffolding around the structure. Through the stairwell can be seen some of the frame for the door at the north end of the Tower, which was later refashioned as a window. At the right edge of the image is an inscription in ink reading "STAIR Well Block out -- 4/28/77." With little indication of wear or damage, the artifact is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
