"Statistical View of the United States," J.D.B. DeBow (Washington: A.O.P. Nicholson, Public Printer,) 1854. The item is a compendium of the federal census of 1850 with introductory remarks and the compendium based on six main areas, including territory; population; moral and social condition; industry; property, revenue and taxation; and statistical detail of cities, towns and counties. Many tables of information are included including by state. Notably, there is an appendix table of general population information for the California state census of 1852, conducted because of gross undercounting in the federal census (which took place early in 1851.) With heavy wear to the spine and boards, including abrasions, tears, scratches and rubbing, pages that have some foxing and soiling and a slightly cracked binding, the condition is fair.
