Description
STATUE OF JOHN BRIDGE, CAMBRIDGE COMMON, MASSACHUSETTS
Color: Black; White
A black and white photograph of the statue of Puritan John Bridge at Cambridge Common, 15 October 1926. Almost the entirety of the monument is shows, with the exception of the bottom portion of the base. The inscription side faces the camera, but the fading of the emulsion prevents a clear reading of the wording. A larger-than-life size figure of Bridge tops the monument. A large grass lawn surrounds the statue with a few trees at the background left. At background right are a few buildings. On the top of the back in the writing of Thomas W. Temple II is the inscription "John Bridge the Puritan / b.1578 d.1669 - / Cambridge Common / Oct. 15, 1926." Temple had just begun his first semester at Harvard Law School when he took this photograph and sent it to his sister Agnes, from whose album the image came. With the fading of the image, a large crease at the upper right corner, some stains from water damage at the top right and right edge and discoloration on the reverse, the artifact is in fair condition.
