2011.53.1.1Description
A press photograph, "Steeple Jack Thrills On-Lookers," 4 April 1927. Issued by the Pacific & Atlantic agency, the image shows Claude Penwell sitting atop a flagpole on the Rives-Strong Building at the intersection of Main, Spring and Ninth streets in downtown Los Angeles. Streetcars, automobiles and other structures, including, at the right, the National City Bank and Great Republic Life buildings, erected by Walter P. Temple and a syndicate, are also in view. On the reverse is a pasted down caption and several stamps from the original agency, as well as United Press International and Acme Newspictures. With two torn corners, a small stain at the upper right margin, a creased lower right corner, and some soiling, the overall condition is good.
