"STRAUS & SCHRAM HOME FURNISHINGS CATALOG NUMBER 214" Color: Blue; Green; Red; White Home furnishings catalog number 214, issued by Straus & Schram, 1920. The 160-page artifact has a blue paper cover with a color drawing at the center of a man and a woman sitting on a couch in front of a fireplace. Across the top is a scroll with the words, "HOME FURNISHINGS." Below this are the words, "On Small / Monthly Payments." Across the bottom is a green and red bar with the name and location of the company. At the left of this is a white shield within which is, "Lowest / Prices / In Our / History." The catalog number is on the bottom right corner. On the back are color advertisements for three phonographs. At the beginning of the inside is a letter to customers with a money back guarantee; an explanation of the company's price values; a listing of payment plans; and an index. There are a variety of goods available including drapery; textiles; rugs; chairs; couches; tables; mirrors; cabinets; bedroom furniture; mattresses; dishware; laundry equipment; bathroom equipment and supplies; toiletries; baby carriages; watches; bags; musical instruments; radios; tents; cameras; sporting goods; heaters; stoves; and heaters. Attached at the back is a trial order form. Many black and white illustrations, as well as some color advertisements, are also included. An order blank which is item .2, business reply card .3, and a return envelope .4, were found within the book. With some tears; creases; adhesive tape on the spine; and some small tears on the cover, the object is in fair condition overall.
