Description

Structural damage from an explosion at the Olinda oil field, Brea, California, ca. 1920s. The image is taken from very near the tin building, at the center and right (east end) of which is the blast damage including twisted metal from the roof and siding and pieces of what appear to be tanks. There are about two dozen persons gathered around the structure. The location, judging from other photos in the accession. appears to be at the west end of the field. An ink inscription on the reverse reads "Explosion at gasoline plant explosion at top of Hall's Hill." With some light soiling and light edge rubbing, the condition is good.
