Contains a brief description and history of southern California, with many illustrations of sites in the region. The front cover has a small section called "The Land of Heart's Desire" and shows three photographs, one of a car parked near an orange grove, another of a road passing by grazing cattle, and the third showing a new housing tract. There is also a drawing of native Americans on horseback and walking at lower left.
