2008.226.1.1Description
"Tar Pool Rancho La Brea," date stamped 27 June 1928. The closeup of one of the tar pit pools at what is now the La Brea Tar Pits and George C. Page Museum, a section of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. In addition to the asphaltum in the pool, there appears to be the remains of animals trapped at the surface. The location is famous for its prehistoric fossils, as well. In addition to the title, written twice in pencil on the back, and the date stamp, there is a stamp for the "Division of Publications / Carnegie Institution of Washington." Aside from very light soiling, there is no discernible wear and the condition is good.
