TEMPLE BLOCK, LOS ANGELESEntry/Object ID
97.41.1.1Description
A color photographic postcard showing the Temple Block in Los Angeles from the north, ca. 1920. The block is just left at center at the triple intersection of Main Street (running left to right across the image), Spring Street (seen at center) and Temple Street (not visible but crossing Main and Spring). The three-story addition built by F. P. F. Temple in 1871 and which housed the Temple and Workman bank is seen most clearly. Two other buildings in the block built by Temple in 1868 and 1870 are partially visible. At right is the post office. In the streets are trolley cars, automobiles, and pedestrians. The caption is in black letters at upper left (see marks/inscriptions). Manufactured by The Western Publishing & Novelty Company of Los Angeles, the card is unused and in good condition with some edge abrasions and minor stains and soiling on the reverse. Caption reads, "Temple Block looking South/Showing Post Office, Spring & Main Sts.,/Los Angeles, Cal." Another copy of the postcard, which is 2000.12.1.2, is in the collection.Lexicon
