Description

Color: White, red, blue, brown A Christmas card (a), insert sheet (b) and envelope (c) from the Temple Family, ca. 1927. The panel card has a red border and in the panel at the left is an arched-window color image of a courtyard with a white wall, red tiled roof, brown roof supports and adobe pavered walk and blue and green landscaping. The scene suggests a Spanish or Mexican-period adobe home, though the text is in a Medieval-like font. The message reads "With Kindest thoughts and best wishes/ for Christmas and the New Year/ Mr. Walter P. Temple/ and Family." On the front of the envelope in pencil is "Xmas Card." The insert sheet is a plain thin piece of paper with no identifying features. The envelope is on plain white paper with a red inside and the embossed name of the manufacturer, Francis H. Webb of Los Angeles. It is possible this card was from 1927--see Thomas Temple's correspondence file for that year for frequent mention of the ordering and production of a Chritmas card. All three items have stains from the red inner lining of the envelope, probably caused by water damage, which is also evident. There is also much surface staining on the envelope and discoloration on all three. Consequently, the items are in poor condition.
