Description

Color: Black; White A reproduction of a studio portrait photograph of members of the Temple family with other unknown persons, ca. 1870. The image features six persons seated and five standing with a backdrop including some drapery, but largely an undecorated space. Seated at center is Antonia Margarita Workman de Temple, wearing a dark dress with white collar. On her lap, also in a dark dress, is daughter Margarita. Flanking the two are eldest children Thomas, at left, and Francis, at right. Thomas wears a suit and tie and holds a book in his right hand which rests on his leg. Francis also has a dark suit and tie. Fourth son, John, stands behind his mother wearing a dark suit with high-buttoned vest. Standing at the far left is another Temple child, Lucinda, who appears to be wearing a light-colored dress. Sitting at the far left is Julia Davis, whose presence in other family photos indicates she may have been an adopted child of the family. There are four other persons, two men and women, whose identities are not known. The man standing at the far right, however, bears a striking facial resemblance to Mrs. Temple and may be Joseph Workman, her brother, of whom no photographs have yet been seen at the museum. The date is estimated from the appearance of family members, especially Margarita, who was born in 1866, Lucinda, born in 1860, and John, born in 1856. As a reproduction, the image is in mint condition. Number-Units: 1
