Color: Black; White
A black and white reproduction photograph of the Temple oil lease in Montebello, ca. 1920s. Many oil derriks are scattered throughout the hills that are across the back. An unpaved road, San Gabriel Boulevard, curves at the right from the back to the foreground. At the left of the road are several small buildings, oil derriks, and a row of trees. The trees are at the bottom of a slope which is at the left. The Basye adobe then owned by the Temples is at the top of the slope and has a slightly pitched roof. The walls of the structure are not visible due to the trees that are across the front. A dirt drive is at the front of the home and at the center of this is a post. Many pipes are on the ground at the bottom left. Written on the top right corner of the back is, "RALPH & CAROL TEMPLE COLLECTION / MAY 1995 / TEMPLE OIL LEASE, MONTEBELLO / CA. 1920, LOOKING WEST / BASYE ADOBE IN FOREGROUND / SAN GABRIEL BLVD [sic] ON RIGHT." Contact sheets for the image are items .35-37 with the negatives being items .2.1-.17. The artifact has no visible signs of damage or wear and is therefore in good condition.
