Description

Color: Black; White A pamphlet, "The Betrayal of California" printed by The Blanchard Press, San Francisco, 1928. The four-page document is an argument against initiative amendment 21 concerning the exhibition of animals at sporting events, fairs, and other amusements. The front page has the title at the center. The second page details concerns that California's cattle business would be crippled by the legislation, which would effect rodeos, horse shows, fairs, polo meets, circuses, "Spanish" fiestas, and other activities. Page three is a detailed argument against the referendum and its potential effects and includes a statement from former governor Friend Richardson in support of the anti-initiative movement. Page four lists several organizations said to be against the referendum and has the printer's name and address at the bottom. Aside from significant browning and a crease at the bottom right corner, the condition is good.
