Description

"The Brack-Shops Guide," issued by the Brack-Shops Bureau of Service, Los Angeles, published by S. W. Gillette, 1917. The publication has three parts, including an alphabetical list of goods, a list of hotels and apartment houses, and a summary of the departments of the Brack Shops and list of new works of fiction. Photographs of the interior and of founder E. R. Brackett are included. The Brack Shops, which occupied the 1913 Bronson Building at Seventh and Grand and which was empty for two years, opened in 1915 and was an unusual arrangement with independent tenants selling goods and services in a common structure. Designed by Austin and Pennell, the building still stands at 527 W. Seventh. As pasted down, with residue on the back, acid burns, soiling, staining and edge rubbing to the wrappers, but clean pages, the condition is fair.
