The item has a front cover with an image of palm and pine trees behind which are groves, hills and mountains. The title is at the top of this image and the year is at the bottom within a panel. At the top is a faded piece of yarn or string which binds the various pages together. There is a page for every two months, featuring a multicolored drawing of California features, such as oranges, mountains, poinsettia flowers, landmark buildings and manmade features and other state-related elements. At the bottom is the year and two boxes for the months. On the bottom of the back is the publisher's name and location.
