Description

Color: Brown "The Care and Handling of Dogs," by John Lynn Leonard, published by the Garden City Publishing Co., Inc., 1928. The hardcover book, without a dustjacket, has a brown cover with the image of a terrier at the upper right of the front cover. The title, author's last name, and publisher's name are on the spine. There is a preface by Albert Payson Terhune and an introduction by Fannie Hurst. Chapters are on: the selection of a dog; age in selection; reception into the home; common-sense care and handling; strange dogs; exploded whims about dogs; care of the mother dog; new-born puppies; maternal ailments, and irregularities in breeding. The volume also contains an index and thirty-five black and white photographs as illustrations. An inscription on the inside front cover in blue ink reads "From Daddy and 'Moms' / To Gloria Jean / Christmas 1940." In fair condition, the book has cover and spine abrasions; cover creases, dents, tears and general wear; a few stains on the back cover's bottom right corner and the inside flysheets; and a musty smell.
