Description

Color: Black; White "The Cathedral, Los Angeles, Cal.," a stereoview by A. C. Varela, ca. 1878. The image shows the front facade and one side elevation of the structure as taken from Main Street. In the background is a portion of a cupola tower. Varela stood on the opposite side of the street, which is largely notable in the foreground. No other buildings are in view, nor are there persons on the street or walks. At the bottom right is the number "52" and title, while at the margins is the printed phrase "Photographed and Published by / A. C. Varela, Los Angeles, Cal." In fair condition, the item has corner burring, creases, soiling, some fading and stains on the image, slight moisture damage, minor foxing, slight edge tears, some scratches, and a few small stains.
