The entrance to the Hollywoodland tract, ca. 1923. The image is taken from the large unpaved road, Beachwood Drive, leading into the development. One of the tall stone entrance towers is at the right, in front of which is a Pacific Electric Railway bus. Next to the bus are two men waving goodbye. Behind this is the Tudor Revival-style sales office. Several billboards are on a slope advertising the community. In the background is some of the grading for lots on the hillside. In the distance is the top of the first few letters of the famous "Hollywood" sign, which originally spelled out "Hollywoodland" for the development. At the bottom right is "H-139," evidently an ID number. On the back is a pasted down caption reading "Pacific Electric Busses Like This Are Guaranteed For Beachwood / Drive As Soon As Beachwood Is Paved." With some discoloration from the pasted down adhesive and some minor edge rubbing, the condition is good.
