"The Etude," July 1928 issue, published by the Theodore Presser Co. of Philadelphia. The front cover has the phrase "The Jounral of the Musical Home Everywhere" at the top. Just below this is the periodical's title in white letters, partially superimposed over an image titled "THE LITTLE CONCERT." This shows an 18th-century scene of a mother at the pianoforte or harpsichord, with a girl in a royal blue dress playing the harp and two children in lighter colored clothing standing and reading from a piece of music. At the lower left is the price per issue, at the right the price per year, and at the center the month and date. Contents include some forty articles on technique, study, and instruction; material on famous composers; packing a musical trunk; the use of harmony; studio ventilation; playing hymns; and a piece on poise. There are also several sections of reproduced scores, divided into the categories of "Fascinating Pieces for the Musical Home;" "Classic, Modern and Contemporary Master Works;" "Outstanding Vocal and Instrumental Novelties;" and "Delightful Pieces for Junior Etude Readers." Many black and white photographs and drawings, as well as a great many advertisements are included. In good condition, the artifact has cover creases, dents at the corners; possible moisture damage at the top; light stains; and page yellowing.Lexicon
