Description

Color: Blue; Orange; Purple; Yellow "The Etude," June 1928 issue, published by the Theodore Presser Co. of Philadelphia. The front cover has a frame-like border with purple and brown designs and triple lines, evoking a classical style. At the top is the periodical's title over a gray background and bordered by stylized dual line borders. Below this and to the left is the price per issue and per year, while at the right is the month and year. Much of the cover is an image titled "ORPHEUS AND HIS LYRE" showing the Greek figure naked except for a billowy piece of fabric covering his private parts and his lyre resting against his hip. At the lower left is a lion and panther, in light brown and purple, respectively, while at the lower right is a tiger in orange and white. Contents include some forty articles on technique, study, and instruction; material on famous composers; review of new works; teaching children; chord conversions for small hands; and variety in children's recitals. There are also several sections of reproduced scores, divided into the categories of "Fascinating Pieces for the Musical Home;" "Classic, Modern and Contemporary Master Works;" "Outstanding Vocal and Instrumental Novelties;" and "Delightful Pieces for Junior Etude Readers." Many black and white photographs and drawings, as well as a great many advertisements are included. In good condition, the artifact has cover creases, dents at two corners; light soiling and stains; and some yellowing of pages.
