Description

A press photograph of the first Los Angeles city hall, taken 27 April 1928. The image shows the adobe building used as the city hall up through the late 1850s, but which, at the time of the original photo in perhaps the 1880s, was a real estate and insurance office and railroad ticket establishment. A horse-drawn buggy, and several men and boys are posed in front. On the reverse is a pasted-down caption from International Newsreel Photo, noting that the new city hall, as of April 1928, was across the street from the old hall shown in the image. The advertisement signs show real estate and insurance agents such as Covarrubias, Ben E. Ward and J.D. Dunlop. There is a missing corner and other losses not affecting the image, as well as creases and slight soiling, but the overall condition is good.
